In honor of my renewing the domain for another year, I thought I'd post a little something. (Imagine that!) Life for me has been more of the same. The server on which the site resides underwent some stuff since my last post that set it back a bit and I'd been reluctant to delve back in and fix it. I decided to do so this evening.
On the 28th, ThePaddedCell.org will be 2 years old. Wow. I guess time flies when you almost never post. It's late and my brain is barely functioning. I'll have something better to write about soon, I promise.
While we're on the subject of colors, you may have noticed that I changed the color scheme around here. Do not attempt to adjust your monitor. This is supposed to look this way. I thought that the grey scheme looked too... well, too sane. So I'm going to be trying different schemes. Or maybe I'll just say to heck with it and stick with this one. I don't know.
In my continuing effort to make the web a better place and to aid those also striving to do so, I cooked up a little something the other day for the purpose of testing colors. I plan to add to it, but it's currently pretty useful. So, without further ado, here is my color, um... thing.
The other day in one of my usual fits of boredom, I assembled a financial calculator to figure the gains from investing at various interest rates. I thought that perhaps my adoring public might benefit from it, so here it is. Have fun, and happy investing. Given my recent fascination with personal finance, look for more gadgets and info relating to the wonderful world of cold, hard cash in the near future.
Hmm... two posts in one day? What's wrong with THIS picture?
Today I went out and bought myself an mp3 player for my car. It's great; now I can use the flash drive I have to listen to mp3s when I'm on the road. How spiffy.
I heard about this story awhile back, and only just got around to posting it. It's been a while since I've put up any news stories, but I figured this one deserves to be here.

Sharon Tendler met Cindy 15 years ago. She said it was love at first sight. This week she finally took the plunge and proposed. The lucky "guy" plunged right back.
I said a few posts back that I was eventually going to have a site exclusively devoted to promoting my development business, and tonight I finally created it. somethingproductive.com is still in "coming soon" phase, but soon it'll be up and running. Hasta luego,
Rob
A while back I discovered that a user on some sports forum was hotlinking an image from my site. While at the time I didn't think much of it, I was recently given an idea of how to perhaps deter such activity. Check it out. The image in question is in the last post, at the bottom of the page.
So I spent a few hours last night converting the layout of the site to css, and as of very early this morning the site is valid XHTML 1.0 Transitional. Next stop, 1.0 Strict. I've been working on display glitches between browsers and by this point I think for the most part they're taken care of. Just one more step in the direction of excellence. Doing my part to make the WWW a better place. Ok, I think they bought it. *ahem* Well, yeah. And stuff. Hasta lumbago.
In my never-ending quest to benefit the world, or at least entertain to some degree, I have written a web-based chat script that I'm still ironing some kinks out of. It seems to work ok for the most part though, so submitted for your approval, live chat at The Padded Cell. Enjoy.
