Good Morning, Vietnam!
I have been truly remiss in my posting duties this past... dear God, almost 2 years. What has been going on, you may (or may not) ask? SSDD, for the most part. I recently relocated the site to a new server and have been meaning to once again overhaul it completely. Stay tuned.

It's all good.
I have a bone to pick with some people about flawed logic. I recently heard someone defend smoking marijuana because "it's natural". Now, the right and wrong of such behavior goes beyond the scope of this rant; what's at issue is the reasoning involved in its defense - a little consistency is in order. As it happens, ricin is a deadly poison used in chemical warfare that is - you guessed it - naturally-occurring. Are we therefore to conclude that ricin is perfectly safe? It is, after all, natural. No thanks. I'll pass. What I'm saying basically is do what you do, but if you feel you have to defend it, surely there's something more compelling than "It's natural".

Ok, now we're really valid
I spent much of yesterday going through the entire site and squashing the remaining xhtml bugs still plaguing the other pages. I've had the front page valid for months, but apparently it never occurred to me that the rest of the site was still so bad. Well, as of last night, I THINK the entire site is valid XHTML 1.0 strict. Now I get to go tackle an IE positioning bug. Bubye.

Greetings From...
Here I am. True to form, I meant to post after I moved 2 weeks ago but haven't managed to do so until right now. I relocated on August 5 to the New Orleans area, to take a PHP programming job at a computer shop here. So far, I like the area, my new apartment, and my job. It's rather nice to have a job that I don't have to be ashamed of. It's also nice to be able to go to work, park myself in a chair, and not have to get back into the car until it's time to go home. My car was getting tired of driving around all day. My fuel costs have gone down dramatically, already. So I've been tinkering once again with the site this weekend, and have managed to make the movie listings page work a little more smoothly, as well as validate. I didn't realize how awful the html was, having written it close to 2 years ago. I also adjusted the color scheme once more, and I'm actually marginally happy with this one. Until next time, do what you do. But only if you're so inclined.

Crosswords, anyone?
In my constant effort to provide a service to humanity and (mostly) entertain myself, I have created a crossword puzzle helper. Hopefully someone other than myself will find it useful.

Wow. How the months fly
So it seems that it's been nearly 2.5 months since my last post. Been busy. Yeah. That's my story, and I'm sticking to it. As usual, if it's not one thing, it's another. But I shall once again attempt to be more diligent. I've been involved in some new projects lately, and hopefully things here will be looking up. Yesterday I had a friend tell me about a game that apparently has been around awhile, even though I've only just become aware of it. Progress Quest is a game where you set up your character and then you are spared all the drudgery of travel, combat, and any other interaction with players and NPCs as the game handles ALL of that for you. I can level up in my sleep. Hooray! Until next time, this is your humble correspondent. Good night.

Happy Birthday, ThePaddedCell!
In honor of my renewing the domain for another year, I thought I'd post a little something. (Imagine that!) Life for me has been more of the same. The server on which the site resides underwent some stuff since my last post that set it back a bit and I'd been reluctant to delve back in and fix it. I decided to do so this evening.

On the 28th, ThePaddedCell.org will be 2 years old. Wow. I guess time flies when you almost never post. It's late and my brain is barely functioning. I'll have something better to write about soon, I promise.

No, really, look at the pretty colors.
While we're on the subject of colors, you may have noticed that I changed the color scheme around here. Do not attempt to adjust your monitor. This is supposed to look this way. I thought that the grey scheme looked too... well, too sane. So I'm going to be trying different schemes. Or maybe I'll just say to heck with it and stick with this one. I don't know.

Look at the pretty colors.
In my continuing effort to make the web a better place and to aid those also striving to do so, I cooked up a little something the other day for the purpose of testing colors. I plan to add to it, but it's currently pretty useful. So, without further ado, here is my color, um... thing.

What's in YOUR wallet?
The other day in one of my usual fits of boredom, I assembled a financial calculator to figure the gains from investing at various interest rates. I thought that perhaps my adoring public might benefit from it, so here it is. Have fun, and happy investing. Given my recent fascination with personal finance, look for more gadgets and info relating to the wonderful world of cold, hard cash in the near future.
